Office Space

I watched this movie because before I was laid off I worked in a very "Office Space" type environment. If you are in the corporate world and spend your day in a cubicle it is almost impossible to go through a week of work without someone quoting or making a reference to Office Space. Its really annoying and it made me not want to watch the movie for an entire year. Butttttttttt... Im really glad that I did.

This movie was so funny, I couldnt stop laughing. It may have even made me experience heartburn for the first time. In the beginning of the movie, David Herman who plays Michael Bolton is rapping like a hardass in the car and then sees a black guy selling roses on the street and promptly locks his car door. Watch it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSje5N0VzlY.

Another notable scene was when Peter Gibbons (Ron Livingston) stops giving a shit about work and the movie goes through his carefree life to the song "Damn, it feels good to be a gangster". That is every upper middle class Americans daydream about how they wish they could be at work.
Too many great scenes to mention so just watch it its like a 100 minutes or something. Basically, it short, funny and sweet and the cast selection is perfect. If you work in high tech and are overworked, underpaid, undervalued and generally unnoticed for your efforts, this is your movie.

Spartacus

This movie won the Best Picture Oscar in 1961 and is a Stanley Kubrick Film ( Clockwork Orange, 2001 Space Odyssey and Eyes Wide Shut).

The movie is about a slave named Spartacus and how he becomes a gladiator and eventually leads a revolt against the Roman Empire in an attempt to end slavery (ha! how foolish!) This movie was definitely better than Lawrence of Arabia because of its beautiful scenery and lavish costume designs (especially for that time). I don't really have anything to complain about for this movie since it was really well done although my friend kept interrupting the movie by saying the following ever 20 minutes, "Dude, this is just like in Gladiator" So basically, Ridley Scott ripped off Kubrick.

Watch this movie despite the length of the film.

Lawrence of Arabia

So lately Ive been on this kick of watching Award winning films. Ive watched West Side Story, I rented the Pianist and today I watched Lawrence of Arabia. This has got to be the longest movie of all time. I MEAN THIS! I am Indian and Hindi films take about 6 months to watch and I kid you not this movie was 12 months. I could have gotten pregnant and started raising my child by the time I finished this movie. Plus with all of the pausing I had to do my kid would have started to talk. My point is this movie is fucking long as hell. Probably the most annoying part of the movie was that they kept playing the theme song over and over again. The music does not judge the tone of the film but rather whenever the sound director felt like putting in music (ever 2 minutes). Anyway, this film won the Oscar in 1963 and the funny thing is the main character Lawrence, played by Peter O' Toole (haha!) didnt even win the Oscar. I know why too, hes so flamboyant its borders creepy. No one ever votes for creepsters!

Oh yeah, in case you watch movies for the hot babes, there is not a single woman in this film. Imagine watching a film for hours with exclusively sword fights. Lame.

Statement of Purpose

This is a no nonsense blog about what people REALLY want to know about the random movies that I have happened to watch. This blog is NOT about the quality of direction, an actors ability to draw in the audience or even the graceful integration of music into sensitive scenes. My thoughts are my random musings from the standpoint of your everyday citizen with absolutely no artistic talent. Plain and simple, when I'm bored (and since I was laid off, I'm always bored), I watch TV, and let's face it folks, all TV shows are not created equal. At least I can pick the movies I watch. You cant really pick whats on TV...

Okay, here goes.

P.S. Thanks Chris for the idea. You're cool beans.
